The far end of the Rainbow

Wild horses running over the expanse of green,
A plate of strawberries topped with cream,
A warrior's nightmare, a philosopher's dream,
At the far end of the rainbow

A smiling damsel, beautiful and fair,
A laughter in the wind without a care,
A mouse in the trap, a lion in his lair,
At the far end of the rainbow

The man of wisdom having his fits,
Angry eyes narrowed to slits,
A broken heart shredded to bits,
At the far end of the rainbow

Peace, harmony and every other wish,
Mom's cooking and your favourite dish,
A clear ocean and the golden fish,
At the far end of the rainbow

A man walking the path, brave and bold,
Defying all wisdom, new and old,
Single minded focus on his pot of gold,
At the far end of the rainbow

10 days later......

I walked through the door,
Head bent, staring at the floor.
When I looked up,
My head spun and I could think no more.

There she stood, as radiant as ever,
Each tress of her flowing hair,
Glowing in the morning sun.

Each day away is an era itself,
Survival is not an option,
Its the problem itself.
Yet I struggle on,
Holding on to bits,
Hope springs eternal,
Even in the darkest of pits.

Here, there, everywhere.
Always so near, yet so far.
Looking forward, I am scared,
Thinking thoughts I haven't dared

Yet she makes my present beautiful,
With her there is no pain,
No sadness, no fear
All my troubles seem to disappear.

So I try and live for the present,
Without any joy and without any tear,
As she walks up to me and
says Happy New Year
